About us
The Investor Education Fund (IEF) develops and promotes unbiased, independent financial information, programs and tools to help consumers make better financial and investing decisions. It was established as a non-profit organization by the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and is funded by settlements and fines from OSC enforcement proceedings.

At the IEF, our goal is to give you the tools and information that you need to make better financial and investing decisions. We provide unbiased easy-to-read information that you can use to make sense of your finances. Our work is based on our research.

Before we developed this site, we went out and asked investors what they wanted to know about money and investing, and how they wanted to learn about it. This research has helped us develop unbiased, reliable information that is written by independent professionals in the simplest way possible. We hope you will find the answers to your money questions here, easily and quickly.

If you don’t find the answer you are looking for, please ask us or let us know what would assist you better. We will continue to improve our content and tools as we stay committed to meeting your needs.

Organization Structure and Funding

The IEF received $1.75 million in funding from enforcement fines and settlements in 2008-09. Reporting and accountability obligations of the IEF include the condition that the IEF continues to deliver on its business plan. The IEF operates separately from the OSC with its own Board of Directors, the majority of whom are external to the OSC.
