Will my adviser keep my personal information safe?

When you talk with an adviser, you may share a lot of information about yourself and your finances. Your adviser must keep this information safe. To find out how they will protect you, ask your adviser:

• When we meet, will it be in an open public area where others might hear us, or will we meet in private?

Will anyone else be at our meetings, or be on the line when we talk on the phone? If so, when would this be and why would they be involved?

• Will you take notes when we meet? If so, where will those notes be kept to make sure that they are safe and private?

• Will our discussions ever be recorded? If so, when and why? What will happen to those recordings? Where will they be kept?

• Will I get a written record of what we agreed to, so I can make sure it is accurate?

Remember: It’s up to your adviser to keep your personal information safe.

But it’s a good idea to check that he or she is taking all the proper steps.
