The Investor Education Fund (IEF) maintains this website and its social media sites (including its blogs, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages) as a non-profit public service, for information and educational purposes only. By accessing or using this website or by participating in any of IEF’s social media sites (including by following, reading, viewing, sharing or otherwise using any associated posts or content), you agree that you have read, understand and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use, as amended from time to time. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO AGREE TO THESE TERMS OF USE, DO NOT ACCESS OR USE ANY PART OF THIS WEBSITE OR PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF IEF’S SOCIAL MEDIA SITES. IEF may change these terms and conditions from time to time by posting the changes on the website. You should review these terms and conditions each time you visit this website or participate in any of IEF’s social media sites.
 
Governing Law
 
This website and IEF’s social media sites are controlled by IEF from its offices within the Province of Ontario, Canada.  All matters relating to your access to, or use of, this website or any of IEF’s social media sites (including the content thereat) shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.

IEF encourages all users to discuss and interact with the GetSmarterAbout Money.ca community, including its blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other sources of content. You are welcome to post views and opinions in reaction to any content which IEF posts or otherwise publishes on its social media sites. However, by participating on any of IEF’s social media sites, you agree to comply with these guidelines.
 
Third Party Terms and Conditions. You acknowledge that your use of IEF’s social media sites is governed not only by these guidelines, but by the guidelines and other terms and conditions stipulated by the operator of the social media site. In participating in any of IEF’s social media sites, you agree to comply with the applicable operator’s guidelines and terms and conditions.

Other participants may use your posted information beyond the control of IEF. Right to Moderate. IEF reserves the sole right to review, edit and/or delete any comment, view, opinion, response or other content it deems inappropriate. IEF does not condone any form of harassment, written attacks, insults, vulgarity or indecency. You agree not to do any of the following: (i) upload to or transmit using any of IEF’s social media sites any defamatory, indecent, obscene, harassing, violent or otherwise objectionable material, or any material that is, or may be, protected by copyright, without permission from the copyright owner; (ii) use any of IEF’s social media sites to violate the legal rights (including the rights of confidentiality and privacy) of others or to violate the laws of any jurisdiction; (iii) misrepresent an affiliation with any person or organization; (iv) upload to or transmit on any of IEF’s social media sites any advertisements or solicitations of business; (v) upload or otherwise transmit files that contain a virus or corrupted data; (vi) collect information about others (including e-mail addresses) without their consent; (vii) upload or transmit files or photos or include in a comment links that you know, or have reason to believe, cannot be distributed legally using IEF’s social media site or that you have an obligation to keep confidential; (viii) engage in any other conduct that restricts or inhibits anyone’s use or enjoyment of IEF’s social media site, or which, as determined by IEF, may harm IEF or visitors to IEF’s social media site(s) or expose them to liability.
 
Not Duty to Monitor/Moderate or Respond. Although IEF has the right to review, edit and/or delete any comment, view, opinion, response or other content it deems inappropriate, IEF is under no obligation to do so. You acknowledge that IEF can neither review all material that is posted on its social media sites nor ensure prompt removal of objectionable material. Accordingly, IEF assumes no liability for any action or inaction regarding transmissions, communications or content provided by third parties. IEF has no liability or responsibility to anyone for performance or non-performance of the activities described in this paragraph or the paragraph immediately preceding.
 
Consequences of Non-Compliance. Your failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the termination of your access to IEF’s social media sites.
 
Privacy policy
 
IEF and its agents and representatives (sometimes referred to as “we”, “us” or “our”) respect your privacy and apply recognized principles to our dealings with personal information. Personal information is information about an identifiable individual. This Privacy Policy applies to our collection, use and disclosure of personal information in Canada, but does not apply to information about our employees or to information that is not personal information.

Use of Personal Information. IEF may use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • to send you newsletters and other electronic communications that you have subscribed to;
  • to respond to your questions and requests;
  • to conduct and administer surveys, promotions, competitions, games and contests; and
  • otherwise with your consent or as permitted or required by law.

Our Website and Social Media Sites. Certain browsing information may be collected to help IEF evaluate the website or any of its social media sites and determine how it is used. For example, we may collect your IP address, browser type, operating system, domain name, access times and referring website addresses. This information may be combined with that of other visitors to the website and used for the management and improvement of the website; for example, we may use such information to assess which areas of the website are most commonly accessed. IEF may use service providers to help us collect and analyze this information, and we may share this information and other information of this type with service providers retained by IEF to assist in the development and administration of the website or the social media site(s).

GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca uses cookies to store information about visitors’ preferences, such as language and text size settings, and to record user-specific information when accessing content (for example, we may use an identifying flag in a cookie to control the offering of the site “Outcomes” survey, so as to avoid offering the survey to users who have declined or completed it already).
